As we grow older we appreciate our family and friends more. While the people in your life may change over the years, seniors can be thankful for the time spent with loved ones and for opportunities to continue to strengthen their relationships with friends, old and new. Though our family may not be nearby they are always in our thoughts and only a phone call or an email away. If you reside in an assisted living community you regularly have opportunities to meet new people and make new friends, and that’s something to be thankful for too!
Medical Advancements
Something seniors can be thankful for advancements in medicine that allow older adults to live longer, healthier lives. Many seniors are currently benefiting from new medications, procedures, and treatments that are due to these recent advances. Living longer, healthier lives is something we can all be thankful for!
Health
Yes, aging does take its toll and many seniors have aches, pains and chronic diseases. Yet we are still getting around and doing things for ourselves. We are able to enjoy a walk outdoors on a sunny day or an afternoon spent looking at the fall colors.
Life Experiences/Memories
Each year brings with it more experiences. Perhaps you have memories of great life accomplishments or remarkable, life-changing events. Perhaps you remember a special vacation or being a bowling league champion? Being thankful for all of experiences, whether good, bad, past or present can bring up feelings of gratitude, because without these experiences, you wouldn’t be who you are today.
Hobbies and Nature
During golden years, you may notice the little things, like your favorite hobbies or being able to enjoy nature. Hobbies are a great way to relax while doing something that brings you contentment. Walking through the park, going to the beach, gardening, or enjoying a quiet day of fishing are some of the many hobbies that allow you to simultaneously enjoy nature and beautiful surroundings. Being thankful for hobbies and nature can help clear your mind, provide moments of serenity and relief, and inspire gratitude every day.
